The Elephant in the Room: The Massive Aesthetics of the New S 1000 R

Many found the appearance of the last S 1000 R a bit too tame. The single headlight was functional but didn't exactly exude aggressiveness. That changes now with 2025. The new dual LED headlight gives the naked bike a truly fierce look - just as you would expect from a BMW. Visually, the rear has also been altered with a shorter license plate holder. A USB-C charging port under the seat and the standard intelligent emergency call E-CALL are additional innovations.

BMW S 1000 R 2025: Engine and Performance

The inline four-cylinder engine of the S 1000 R, derived from the S 1000 RR, now delivers 170 hp at 11,000 rpm. Compared to the previous model, the power output has been increased by 5 hp. This boost was achieved through an adjustment of the intake ports and a modified mapping. The maximum torque remains unchanged at 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. A shorter secondary gear ratio (17:46) is intended to enhance acceleration performance.

The standard gear shift assistant allows for upshifting and downshifting without using the clutch and has been optimized to ensure smooth gear changes with the throttle open or closed. The new M short-stroke throttle reduces the twist angle to 58 degrees. Additionally, the S 1000 R's Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) benefits from the revisions made to the DTC from the M 1000 R.

Motor Drag Torque Control (MSR) and "Engine Brake" function as standard

The new BMW S 1000 R features the engine drag torque control (MSR), which prevents the rear wheel from sliding when abruptly closing the throttle or downshifting. Additionally, the engine braking torque can be adjusted via the "Engine Brake" function in four riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Dynamic Pro).

BMW S 1000 R 2025 Special Equipment and Color Variants

The accessory program has been expanded and now includes, among other things, a holder for navigation devices, handlebar end mirrors, and a luggage plate for the pillion seat. The BMW S 1000 R is available as a base variant in Blackstorm metallic, as a Sport model variant in Bluefire/Mugiallo Yellow, and in conjunction with the M Package in Lightwhite uni / M Motorsport.

Prices and availability of the new BMW S 1000 R will be announced soon.
