Since the release of the BMW R 1300 GS with its newly developed Boxer engine, some time has passed, but now the Bavarians are finally bringing more Boxer models to the market. Given that the 1300 engine is significantly more active and dynamic compared to its 1250 predecessor, it's no surprise that enhancing sportiness was the focus of the new development for the R 1300 R.

Sportier Ergonomics for the BMW R 1300 R 2025
The revised ergonomic setup with a flatter handlebar and footpegs positioned further back promotes a more active, forward-leaning seating position. This enhances the riding experience during dynamic maneuvers without compromising comfort on longer tours. An optional comfort handlebar is available. Depending on the model variant of the R 1300 R, these ergonomics can be further customized.

BMW's Boxer Naked becomes more dynamic and sporty in 2025.

Powerful 145 HP Boxer Engine at the Heart of the BMW R 1300 R 2025
The new air/oil-cooled two-cylinder Boxer engine delivers 145 HP (107 kW) at 7,750 rpm with a displacement of 1,300 cc and a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This makes it the most powerful production Boxer engine from BMW to date. The bore-to-stroke ratio has been revised, with a maximum engine speed of 9,000 rpm.
Three Riding Modes Standard, Additional Modes Optional
Standard features include the riding modes Rain, Road, and Eco, to adapt to various riding situations. Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes are available as an optional package with the Riding Modes Pro. With the pre-selection feature, riders can save their preferred modes for quick access. The standard Motor Slip Regulation (MSR) prevents unstable conditions during deceleration by automatically opening the throttle valves, with its behavior depending on the mode. In "Eco," "Rain," and "Road" modes, MSR ensures maximum stability, while in "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro," it allows more slip. The BMW R 1300 R also comes standard with Cornering ABS and lean-sensitive DTC traction control.
Automated Shift Assistant as Optional Equipment
With the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), BMW offers an optional system that automates clutch operation and allows both manual and automated shifting. Shifting can be done automatically in D-mode or manually via the shift pedal in M-mode, with the clutch being electronically controlled. The goal is to provide a smoother and more comfortable riding experience.
New Chassis for Precise Handling
The newly engineered steel sheet metal main frame and aluminum rear frame offer increased rigidity and a more compact design. Together with the new 47 mm upside-down front fork and the Evo Paralever II at the rear, the ride quality improves significantly. The new 17-inch aluminum wheels reduce weight by over 1.4 kg, enhancing acceleration, braking performance, and handling.

World Premiere: The upside-down fork with adjustable spring rate thanks to the DSA system.
Electronic Suspension with Adjustable Spring Rate
Dynamic ESA comes standard, adjusting damping and spring base at the rear. From 2025, the suspension can be optionally enhanced with the Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) system. It dynamically adjusts not only the damping at the front and rear but also the spring rate, depending on the riding mode and current riding situation. This makes the R 1300 R the first production motorcycle with an adjustable spring rate on an upside-down fork. According to BMW, this offers several advantages: more stability, increased lean angle clearance, and a broader range between comfort and sportiness. Even a lifting aid for parking the motorcycle on the optional main stand is integrated into the DSA.
In the R 1300 R Performance, the suspension and DSA are specially tuned for sporty use. The USD fork and shock absorber are longer and have firmer damping. This results in increased lean angle clearance but also raises the seat height by 10 mm.
Brake System with Integral ABS Pro
The front dual-disc brake system features radially mounted four-piston calipers, while the rear uses a single-disc brake with a two-piston floating caliper. The brake system is supported by BMW Motorrad Integral ABS Pro, which ensures high safety even when leaning. The hand brake lever simultaneously activates both the front and rear brakes, while the foot brake lever operates only the rear brake. An optional sport brake with titanium-colored calipers is available.
Lighting System and Assistance Technology
The R 1300 R comes standard with a new full-LED headlight in an octagonal design. Optionally, Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering light is available, which optimally illuminates the road when leaning. With the optional Riding Assistant, known from the GS, consisting of Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Front Collision Warning (FCW), modern radar-based assistance technology enters the roadster segment.
Touring Capability and Luggage Options
The new BMW R 1300 R is optionally available with an electrified luggage system. The cases can be centrally locked, feature interior lighting, and have a USB-C port (left side). The new tank bag is secured without straps using a tank ring. Multiple seat variants allow for individualized seat height, including options below 790 mm. The optional navigation preparation offers electric locking for convenient and keyless operation.
BMW R 1300 R 2025 Standard Equipment
Even in its standard configuration, the new BMW R 1300 R comes equipped with an extensive electronics package. At the heart of this is the "Connectivity" feature, which includes a 6.5-inch full-color TFT display that, together with the standard BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller, allows for intuitive operation of vehicle functions, media playback, and telephony. When paired with a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone and a BMW Motorrad communication system, these functions can be conveniently used while riding. Additionally, the free BMW Motorrad Connected App offers integrated turn-by-turn navigation directly on the display, as well as the ability to record routes and display ride statistics.
The standard equipment also includes two different power outlets: a 12-volt onboard socket on the right side near the pillion footrest brackets and a modern USB-C socket on the left side of the cockpit. The latter provides up to 2,400 mA of charging current, offering ample power for fast charging smartphones. Both sockets are short-circuit proof, protected against overvoltage, and reliably shielded from environmental influences such as water ingress by closure caps.
