Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin 2018 vs. Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2023

The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin model year 2018 and the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin model year 2023 are both enduro motorcycles with similar technical specifications. However, there are several notable differences between the two models.

In terms of the engine, both models have an in-line, 2-cylinder engine with a bore of 92mm. However, the CRF1100L Africa Twin has a slightly larger displacement of 1084cc compared to the 998cc of the CRF1000L Africa Twin. This results in a higher engine power of 102 HP and torque of 105 Nm for the CRF1100L Africa Twin, compared to the 95 HP and 98 Nm of the CRF1000L Africa Twin.

Both models have an electric starter and a chain transmission system. The wheelbase and seat height are also similar, with the CRF1100L Africa Twin having a slightly shorter wheelbase of 1574mm compared to the 1575mm of the CRF1000L Africa Twin. The seat height ranges from 850mm to 870mm for both models.

In terms of weight, the CRF1100L Africa Twin is slightly lighter than the CRF1000L Africa Twin, with a kerb weight of 226kg compared to the 232kg of the CRF1000L Africa Twin. Both models have a fuel tank capacity of 18.8 liters.

In terms of strengths, the CRF1000L Africa Twin has a reliable engine, comfortable seating position, well-tuned chassis, good looks, good brakes, and optional DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). It also offers performance modes for different riding preferences.

On the other hand, the CRF1100L Africa Twin has a more powerful engine, sophisticated electronic driving aids, a wonderfully functioning DCT (optional), a touch-screen color display, good ergonomics, and long-distance capability. The windshield of the CRF1100L Africa Twin is also noted to be good for off-road riding.

In terms of weaknesses, the CRF1000L Africa Twin has suboptimal wind protection, no cruise control, and the ABS on the front wheel cannot be switched off. The CRF1100L Africa Twin, on the other hand, has an operating concept of the electronics that is not very clear and intuitive, less robust handguards for off-road use, a windshield that offers manageable protection, and ergonomics that are not ideal for standing riding.

Overall, the CRF1100L Africa Twin offers several improvements and additional features compared to the CRF1000L Africa Twin, particularly in terms of engine power, electronic driving aids, and overall functionality. However, it also has a few weaknesses that should be considered depending on the rider's preferences and intended use.
