KTM ne connaît pas de retour en arrière et KTM ne connaît pas de pardon. C'est pourquoi la nouvelle 1290 Super Duke R est certes un peu plus maniable que sa devancière, mais aussi un peu plus puissante et rapide. Dès 2500 tours, plus de 100 Nm sont disponibles, le maximum est de 141, la puissance maximale est indiquée à 177 CV. Cela peut être trop, mais pas forcément. L'électronique reste le parachute de secours dans cette catégorie où le développement continue d'avancer à grands pas. KTM a commencé là où il y avait des difficultés, c'est-à-dire la stabilité. Les modifications apportées à la géométrie et au châssis l'ont nettement améliorée, ce qui rend la chevauchée de la bête non seulement plus rapide, mais aussi plus sûre. La maniabilité n'en est pas moins radicale et les gènes du supermotard sont plus visibles que sur n'importe quelle autre moto naked. Il ne peut y avoir qu'une seule Super Duke.

A-t-on besoin de 175 ch ou même d'un launch control dans une moto de tourisme ? Bien sûr que non. Est-ce que c'est amusant ? Définitivement ! Même si la Super Duke GT ne peut pas cacher ses gènes et que, malgré son poids à sec de 209 kg, elle est incontestablement une Duke en ce qui concerne l'agilité et l'envie de prendre des virages, elle permet néanmoins de cruiser en toute décontraction, à condition bien sûr d'avoir une certaine "maturité" avec de telles données de puissance. Car contrairement à la Super Duke R ou à une 890 Duke R, elle ne me suggère pas constamment le couteau entre les limites, mais plutôt un sentiment de souveraineté, selon la devise "je peux, mais je ne dois pas". Et tout cela avec un équipement de série somptueux ou comme on est en droit de l'attendre d'une moto à 22 499 euros en Autriche ou 19 053 euros en Allemagne.
