'Best time'

Throughout the year, we at 1000PS receive many different motorcycles in our editorial office. We weigh the bikes on the precise 1000PS scale, gather practical experience, and compare the motorcycles with similar bikes. A fixed point in our test program is also the Supermoto track in Bad Fischau, near the 1000PS headquarters. There, we test all motorcycles under comparable conditions and measure lap times. We record the rides with the onboard camera and publish these rides along with lap times in the format "1000PS Best Time" on 1000PS TV. Here is the link to all videos from this series.

The clothing worn by NastyNils can be found here in the Louis online shop.

Don't be fooled by its looks! The Yamaha XSR900 may appear like a pure hipster bike with its golden rims, stylish tail section, and vintage paint job, but underneath, it's a thoroughbred supersport motorcycle.

The aluminum bridge frame, high-quality swingarm, excellent suspension components, and top-notch braking system make it clear: no expense was spared here. And then there's that engine...

The Heart of the Beast: The Triple Engine

At the core of the XSR900 is its impressive 889cc triple engine. With 119 hp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm, this engine is a real powerhouse. The 120-degree crankshaft offset provides a unique character and perfect smoothness.

The engine, which we already know from the MT-09, is now fully matured and shows its full class. The throttle response is buttery smooth, the power delivery is linear and powerful. The excellent engine electronics support the rider without being intrusive.

Chassis: Stability Meets Agility

The chassis of the XSR900 is a real surprise. The USD fork with 130mm of travel and the Kayaba monoshock with 137mm of travel offer a great balance between comfort and sportiness.

The stability in fast corners is reminiscent of purebred supersport bikes. At the same time, the geometry allows for quick direction changes and precise steering. The lean angle-dependent ABS and traction control work in the background, providing additional safety without hindering the riding pleasure.

Ergonomics: The Perfect Sweet Spot

Yamaha has achieved a masterstroke in ergonomics with the XSR900. The riding position is upright and comfortable, yet sporty enough for ambitious cornering. The handlebars are slightly forward, providing an excellent feel for the front wheel.

With a seat height of 810 mm and a wet weight of 195.5 kg, the XSR900 is manageable for most riders. This combination of comfort and sportiness makes the XSR900 a versatile bike that shines on both country roads and racetracks.

Brakes: Reliable and Well-Modulated

The braking system of the XSR900 leaves nothing to be desired. The cornering ABS works unobtrusively in the background, providing additional safety. The brakes are excellently modulated and offer enough bite for sporty riding. Even during hard braking maneuvers, the bike remains stable and inspires confidence.

Electronics and Features: Modern, but Not Overloaded

The XSR900 comes with contemporary but not overly abundant electronic features. In addition to the lean angle-dependent ABS and traction control, a quickshifter is also on board. The Akrapovic exhaust system rounds off the package acoustically.

The Yamaha XSR900 is like a custom-made suit with a hidden jetpack - it not only looks damn good but also catapults you into new speed dimensions. It combines classic design with state-of-the-art technology, achieving an impressive balance between everyday usability and sportiness.

I am convinced that the XSR900 will secure a top position in our best lap time chart. It impressively proves that style and performance can be perfectly combined. The XSR900 is the ideal compromise for riders looking for a stylish bike for everyday use that also performs outstandingly on twisty country roads and occasional track visits.

Yamaha's years of experience in this segment pay off. The continuous development of the engine and chassis has led to a motorcycle that sets sporty standards in its class. The XSR900 is a flagship model that perfectly represents the quality and ambition of the Yamaha brand.

In the end, only one question remains: How fast was the Japanese beauty really? The answer can be found in our best lap time video – and I promise you, you will be thrilled! The Yamaha XSR900 impressively proves that retro bikes can be far more than just showpieces. It is a serious sports machine that will surprise even experienced riders with its performance.
