BMW S 1000 RR 2015 vs. BMW S 1000 XR 2015

The BMW S 1000 RR and the BMW S 1000 XR are both impressive motorcycles from BMW, but they have some key differences.

Starting with the engine, both models have an inline four-cylinder engine with the same bore and stroke measurements of 80mm and 49.7mm respectively. However, the S 1000 RR has a higher engine power of 199 HP compared to the S 1000 XR's 160 HP. The torque is also slightly higher on the S 1000 RR at 113 Nm compared to the S 1000 XR's 112 Nm. The compression ratio is 13 on the S 1000 RR and 12 on the S 1000 XR. Both bikes have a chain transmission and a displacement of 999cc.

In terms of suspension, both models have a telescopic fork front suspension and a swing arm rear suspension. The chassis on both bikes is made of aluminum and has a twin tube frame type. The front brakes are double disk with radial technology on both models.

In terms of dimensions and weights, the front and rear tire widths and diameters are the same for both models, with a width of 120mm and a diameter of 17 inches. The wheelbase is longer on the S 1000 XR at 1548mm compared to the S 1000 RR's 1425mm. The seat height is also higher on the S 1000 XR at 840mm compared to the S 1000 RR's 815mm. The kerb weight with ABS is higher on the S 1000 XR at 228kg compared to the S 1000 RR's 204kg. The fuel tank capacity is also higher on the S 1000 XR at 20 liters compared to the S 1000 RR's 17.5 liters.

In terms of strengths, the S 1000 RR has a superb shift assistant, an incredibly powerful and rev-happy engine, a great range of accessories, and a race-ready data logging tool and calibration tool available. On the other hand, the S 1000 XR has a sharp engine, a cool design, high-quality workmanship, stable road holding, ABS and ASC standard, a comfortable seat, and successful ergonomics even for tall riders.

However, the S 1000 RR has a weakness in that its chassis can quickly reach its limit in the hands of professionals. On the other hand, the S 1000 XR has some weaknesses including vibrations in the mid rev range, wind protection that could be better, and a screeching exhaust sound.

Overall, both the BMW S 1000 RR and the BMW S 1000 XR are impressive motorcycles with their own strengths and weaknesses. The S 1000 RR is more focused on performance and racing, while the S 1000 XR is a sport touring motorcycle with a more comfortable riding position and additional features for long-distance riding.
