KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 vs. Indian FTR Sport 2023

The KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 and the Indian FTR Sport 2023 are both powerful naked bikes that offer impressive performance and advanced rider assistance systems.

In terms of engine power, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 takes the lead with 180 HP, while the Indian FTR Sport 2023 offers 123 HP. However, the Indian FTR Sport 2023 compensates for this with its American V2 engine, which provides decent pressure throughout the rev range.

When it comes to torque, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 offers 140 Nm, while the Indian FTR Sport 2023 provides 118 Nm. Both bikes have a 2-cylinder engine and a displacement of 1301ccm and 1203ccm respectively.

In terms of suspension, both bikes feature upside-down telescopic forks at the front, with the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 equipped with WP suspension and the Indian FTR Sport 2023 using Sachs suspension. The rear suspension also features WP suspension on the KTM and Sachs suspension on the Indian.

Both bikes have double disk brakes at the front with a diameter of 320mm and four pistons. The brakes are supplied by Brembo on both models.

In terms of advanced rider assistance systems, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 offers ABS, cornering ABS, and traction control. On the other hand, the Indian FTR Sport 2023 provides riding modes, cornering ABS, cruise control, traction control, and anti-wheelie.

In terms of dimensions and weights, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 has a front tire width of 120mm and a rear tire width of 200mm, while the Indian FTR Sport 2023 has a front tire width of 120mm and a rear tire width of 180mm. Both bikes have a 17-inch front and rear tire diameter. The wheelbase is slightly longer on the Indian FTR Sport 2023 at 1525mm compared to the 1497mm on the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020. The seat height is higher on the KTM at 835mm compared to the 780mm on the Indian.

The dry weight of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 is 189kg with ABS, while the Indian FTR Sport 2023 is heavier at 223kg with ABS. The fuel tank capacity is larger on the KTM at 16 liters compared to the 13 liters on the Indian.

In terms of strengths, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 offers a new frame and seating position, a reverse linkage on the shock absorber, a better automatic gearshift, a powerful engine despite Euro 5 regulations, and sensitive electronics. On the other hand, the Indian FTR Sport 2023 boasts an American V2 engine with decent pressure throughout the rev range, a unique overall package, a comprehensive electronics package, a clean look, intuitive operation of the TFT touchscreen, and pleasant naked-bike ergonomics.

However, both bikes have their weaknesses. The KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 has easily scratched plastic between the seat and tank and brake squeaks at walking speed. The Indian FTR Sport 2023 lacks a quickshifter, has a small tank capacity, and a long charging time for the electronics when starting the motorbike.
