KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 vs. KTM 1090 Adventure 2017

The KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 and the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 are both enduro motorcycles with similar features and specifications. However, there are some notable differences between the two models.

In terms of engine and drive train, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 has a larger bore and stroke compared to the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017. This results in a higher engine power of 150 HP and torque of 125 Nm for the 1190 Adventure, while the 1090 Adventure has a slightly lower engine power of 125 HP and torque of 109 Nm. Both models have an electric starter and use a chain transmission.

Both motorcycles have a suspension front and rear with the same brand, WP. The front suspension is an upside-down telescopic fork, providing excellent handling and stability. However, the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 also features advanced rider assistance systems such as ABS, riding modes, and traction control, which are not present in the 1190 Adventure.

In terms of chassis, both models have a chromium-molybdenum frame type, which offers strength and durability. The braking system in the front is provided by Brembo for both motorcycles.

In terms of dimensions and weights, both motorcycles have a 19-inch front tire diameter and a 17-inch rear tire diameter. However, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 has a wider rear tire width of 170 mm, while the 1090 Adventure has a slightly narrower rear tire width of 150 mm. Both models have a wheelbase of 1560 mm and a fuel tank capacity of 23 liters. The seat height of the 1190 Adventure is 860 mm, while the 1090 Adventure has a slightly lower seat height of 850 mm.

When it comes to strengths, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 is praised for its combination of sport and comfort, smooth gearbox, powerful and controllable engine, excellent seating position, manageable chassis, sophisticated electronics, and lean angle ABS. On the other hand, the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 is commended for its very powerful and cultivated engine with a wide rev range, performance modes, switchable ABS, adjustable traction control, agile and safe handling, adjustable ergonomics, height-adjustable windshield, low weight, and comparatively low price.

However, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 does have some weaknesses. It is noted to have a slight jerkiness in the engine below 3000 revs and its design is not as unique as its predecessor. Additionally, smooth gliding is not considered one of its strong points.

The KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 also has a couple of weaknesses. Its design may seem outdated compared to the newer 1290 Super Adventures, and its suspension fork is not adjustable.

In summary, while both the KTM 1190 Adventure 2014 and the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 are capable enduro motorcycles, the 1190 Adventure offers a more powerful engine and advanced electronics, while the 1090 Adventure provides additional rider assistance systems and adjustable ergonomics at a comparatively lower price.
