1290 Super Adventure R naj bi bil novi vodilni terenski model serije KTM Adventure - in tudi je! Neverjetno je, kako enostavno je s polnim rezervoarjem prevažati 240 kilogramov na terenu. Tudi terenski način je v veliki meri prepričljiv. Po drugi strani pa je tako kot pri modelu 1290 Super Adventure S tudi pri različici R na voljo vseh 160 KM in 140 njutonmetrov navora ter vse udobne funkcije (razen elektronsko nastavljivega vzmetenja): V primeru, da je vozilo R90 opremljeno s štirimi načini delovanja (Sport, Street, Rain in Offroad), so na voljo ABS za zavijanje, nadzor vleke, tempomat, sistem za vklop brez ključa in upravljanje z mobilnim telefonom "My Ride" (Moja vožnja).
