The strengths of the R 1250 GS include its extremely torquey boxer engine, comfortable seating position suitable for long distances, great app integration, sophisticated operating concept, and great ergonomics. It also has many customization options and offers great handling with strong confidence in the front. The R 1250 GS is easy to drive.

In terms of weaknesses, the R 1300 GS has limitations in configuration options, requiring unnecessary extras to be selected. Its suspension works at a high level but lacks flawless response and a wide adjustment range. The Front Collision Warning (FCW) system can trigger annoying false alarms in rough everyday life. A slight rolling motion can be experienced with a very sporty driving style. The R 1300 GS may appear too compact for tall riders, especially from behind. The ABS system also gives too much feedback into the brake lever with a sporty driving style.

The weaknesses of the R 1250 GS include awkward shifting at low revs, a lax seat, and brakes and suspension that are no longer on par with strong competition.
