Pregled - BMW S 1000 R 2021 vs Kawasaki Z900 2023

The BMW S 1000 R 2021 and the Kawasaki Z900 2023 are both powerful naked bikes with inline engines, but there are several differences between them.

In terms of engine power, the BMW S 1000 R takes the lead with 165 HP compared to the Kawasaki Z900's 125 HP. This means that the BMW offers more raw power and acceleration, which can be appealing to riders who enjoy high-performance bikes. However, the Kawasaki Z900 still provides a respectable amount of power and is more than capable of delivering an exhilarating riding experience.

When it comes to torque, the BMW S 1000 R also comes out on top with 114 Nm compared to the Kawasaki Z900's 98.6 Nm. This means that the BMW has more low-end power and better acceleration, making it more suitable for aggressive riding and quick overtakes.

In terms of suspension, both bikes feature upside-down telescopic forks at the front and swing arm suspension with a monoshock at the rear. However, the BMW S 1000 R offers more adjustability with compression, preload, and rebound adjustments for both the front and rear suspension. The Kawasaki Z900 only offers preload and rebound adjustments for its suspension. This means that the BMW can be more finely tuned to suit the rider's preferences and riding style.

In terms of chassis, the BMW S 1000 R features an aluminum frame with a twin tube design, while the Kawasaki Z900 has a steel frame with a double cradle design. The aluminum frame of the BMW provides a lighter and stiffer chassis, which can contribute to better handling and maneuverability. However, the steel frame of the Kawasaki Z900 still offers good stability and durability.

Both bikes feature double disc brakes at the front with four pistons, but the BMW S 1000 R has larger diameter discs at 320 mm compared to the Kawasaki Z900's 300 mm discs. The BMW also utilizes radial technology for its brakes, which can provide better braking performance and feel. The Kawasaki Z900, on the other hand, features petal technology for its brakes, which can help with heat dissipation and reduce brake fade.

In terms of rider assistance systems, both bikes come equipped with ABS, riding modes, and traction control. The BMW S 1000 R also offers additional advanced rider assistance systems such as hill start assist, cornering ABS, ride by wire, and anti-wheelie. The Kawasaki Z900 lacks these slope-dependent assistance systems, which may be a drawback for some riders.

In terms of dimensions and weights, both bikes have similar front and rear tire widths and diameters. They also share the same wheelbase of 1450 mm. However, the BMW S 1000 R has a higher seat height at 830 mm compared to the Kawasaki Z900's 795 mm. Additionally, the BMW S 1000 R has a lower kerb weight of 199 kg with ABS compared to the Kawasaki Z900's 212 kg with ABS. This means that the BMW is slightly lighter and may offer better maneuverability.

In terms of strengths, the BMW S 1000 R 2021 is praised for its powerful engine, good brakes, comfortable ergonomics, and high-performance optional extras. It is also considered a great all-rounder with simple operation but still very fast. On the other hand, the Kawasaki Z900 2023 is praised for its light and natural handling, silky engine with full pull from low revs, and high chassis transparency. It also offers a seating position with a feel-good factor and comes at an absolutely fair price.

In terms of weaknesses, the BMW S 1000 R 2021 is criticized for its quickshifter not being perfect and its sound still being a bit intrusive. It is also mentioned that there are still vibrations in the handlebars. The Kawasaki Z900 2023 is criticized for its relatively cumbersome operation of the menu, the lack of slope-dependent assistance systems, and its high weight.

Overall, both the BMW S 1000 R 2021 and the Kawasaki Z900 2023 have their strengths and weaknesses. The BMW offers more power, adjustability, and advanced rider assistance systems, but comes at a higher price. The Kawasaki, on the other hand, offers a more affordable option with good handling and a comfortable seating position. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on the rider's preferences, budget, and intended use of the bike.

BMW S 1000 R 2021

BMW S 1000 R 2021

It's really impressive how BMW always manages to make good motorbikes even better. The sporty S 1000 R with M package and carbon rims looks a bit threatening at first. But even in 2021, the S 1000 R serves up high-tech and performance in a grandiose, usable dosage. The machine rides precisely, handles well but is not tippy. The engine fires out of the corners, but does not overtax. A damn fast motorbike!

Powerful engine

good brakes

comfortable ergonomics

high-priced but high-performance optional extras

simple operation but still very fast

great all-rounder.

Quickshifter good, but not perfect, sound still a bit intrusive

still with vibrations in handlebars

Kawasaki Z900 2023

Kawasaki Z900 2023

The Kawasaki Z900 may not be up to scratch when it comes to modern, lean angle-dependent electronic features, but it's relatively cheap and you shouldn't underestimate the fan base of the good old inline four - the Z900 is one of the cheapest ways to own such a great engine with just under a litre of displacement in a sporty naked bike! The higher weight is noticeable, but not massively annoying, because the handling and stability are quite alright. In terms of "outdated" electronics, the most annoying thing is the missing shift assistant, which is not even available as an option. Overall, however, the Z900 is a great naked bike with a great price-performance ratio.

Light and natural handling with high stability

silky engine with full pull from low revs

high chassis transparency, great feedback

seating position with feel-good factor

absolutely fair price.

Relatively cumbersome operation of the menu

no slope-dependent assistance systems

high weight
