Le Kymco AK 550i offre de nombreuses caractéristiques qui le rendent très désirable en tant que maxiscooter : Un look cool, un confort élevé et un moteur puissant ne sont que quelques-uns de ses atouts. Avec lui, on se déplace avec aisance aussi bien sur l'autoroute que sur les routes de campagne sinueuses et on peut parcourir de nombreux kilomètres en peu de temps. Mais il faut dire une chose : il a besoin de beaucoup de mouvement. La batterie se décharge relativement vite à l'arrêt, si bien que des périodes d'immobilisation de plus de 10 jours ne sont pas conseillées, sauf si l'on dispose d'une prise de courant directement près du parking. Pour la charge, il faudrait en outre installer un câble de charge qui se termine dans la boîte à gants, car l'accès rapide à la batterie est rendu difficile par le carénage avant. Lors de l'achat, il faut absolument demander si la mise à jour du logiciel a déjà été installée sur le scooter pour l'améliorer ! Enfin, il faut évoquer le défaut de qualité évident, lorsqu'il est connu chez les concessionnaires que le longeron gauche de la fourche est souvent non étanche à la sortie de l'usine et nécessite une réparation (sous garantie).
