Il est surprenant de voir à quel point une moto pratique et sans prise de tête comme la Suzuki V-Strom 800DE peut toucher le cœur. C'est probablement dû à cette conception intelligente avec des fonctions électroniques claires qui peuvent être configurées au mieux en fonction des besoins personnels. Grâce à l'excellent système Ride-by-wire, le moteur semble plus puissant dans la plage inférieure que ne le laisserait supposer la cylindrée et fait tout ce qu'il faut sur et hors route. Le châssis, avec un débattement de 220 millimètres à l'avant et à l'arrière, est vraiment bien adapté au tout-terrain, mais il est clair qu'il offre aussi un avantage aux conducteurs routiers sur les mauvaises routes. L'ergonomie convient jusqu'ici, seuls les pilotes de grande taille devraient envisager la selle plus haute en option en raison de l'angle du genou un peu aigu.

Si l'on regarde la liste des équipements de la 800MT, et surtout de la version Touring, on sera étonné de voir combien de choses peuvent être montées de série sur une moto d'aventure de classe moyenne relativement bon marché. Le système de valises marque même des points avec un revêtement astucieux des valises et du top-case. Le châssis et les freins sont bons, le moteur pourrait certes être un peu plus vif et moins saccadé à froid, mais dans l'ensemble, les performances sont bonnes. La 800MT est cependant loin d'être irréprochable, les techniciens doivent absolument améliorer l'assistant de changement de vitesse et le guidage par menu pourrait être plus simple.
