Visuellement, la nouvelle BMW R 1250 RS est la seule parmi les cinq grosses cylindrées à avoir subi des modifications vraiment importantes. Cela lui va très bien, car le nouveau moteur ShiftCam, avec sa magnifique souveraineté à bas régime, a changé son caractère, la RS est désormais une meilleure routière. Elle n'est toujours pas une moto légère et compacte, mais elle offre une stabilité et un confort magnifiques, seule la protection contre le vent pourrait être un peu meilleure. Mais la sportivité n'est pas en reste, le moteur boxer extrêmement puissant agit de manière très agile. Comme à l'accoutumée, les Bavarois savent parfaitement proposer une liste d'accessoires attractive, dont certaines caractéristiques participent de manière déterminante à la bonne performance : Le châssis ESA ne devrait pas manquer lorsque les conditions de charge changent souvent (passager, bagages), et pour le plaisir de conduire ultime, l'assistant de changement de vitesse Pro en fait partie.

Il est inutile d'essayer de comprendre pourquoi la R nineT est si populaire, le concept est manifestement parfaitement adapté à notre époque. Reste à savoir si ce style rétro moderne fonctionnera également avec la BMW R nineT Scrambler, une catégorie de prix plus basse. Mais la condition préalable est très bonne, le Scrambler fait confiance au même "vieux" moteur boxer à refroidissement par air, que BMW a miraculeusement rendu compatible avec l'Euro4 sans perte de performance ni de caractère.
