Sur la route, la différence ne se fera sentir que lors d'un duel sur circuit maison, mais sur la piste de course, elle sera particulièrement évidente. Les freins, le châssis réglable et l'angle d'inclinaison maximum sont ici décisifs. Grâce à la selle plus haute de 30 mm, on se met automatiquement dans une position de course orientée vers la roue avant, on reçoit plus de feedback du châssis et on met plus de poussée sur les freins. La 'R' a déjà tout ce que l'on peut obtenir avec la version standard uniquement via le Track Pack - et même plus. A savoir le châssis raffiné et le système d'échappement Akrapovic. En revanche, il faut faire de petites concessions au niveau du confort au quotidien.

Peu de motos de la catégorie dite d'entrée de gamme procurent autant de plaisir que la Yamaha MT-07. Même la version bridée à 48 ch peut, grâce à sa cylindrée relativement importante, tenir plus longtemps que l'on ne pourrait le supposer face à la version complète. Les autres composants s'en sortent également bien, tant les freins que le châssis ne veulent effrayer personne avec trop de dureté, mais n'atteignent pas immédiatement leurs limites, même pour les pilotes les plus sportifs. L'optique est désormais plus cohérente, le phare à LED minimaliste s'accorde parfaitement avec le look anguleux.
