On the other hand, the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2020 is an enduro motorcycle designed for off-road adventures. It features a high-torque engine that delivers 102 HP and 105 Nm of torque, making it perfect for tackling challenging terrains. The sophisticated electronic driving aids, including ABS, riding modes, cornering ABS, ride by wire, traction control, and anti-wheelie, enhance the overall riding experience and provide added safety. The optional DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) is wonderfully functioning and allows for seamless gear changes. The touch-screen color display is a modern addition and provides easy access to various features. The ergonomics are well-designed, ensuring rider comfort even during long rides. The windshield is specifically designed for off-roading, although it may offer limited protection on the road.

Despite their strengths, both motorcycles have their weaknesses. The Honda NT1100 2022 lacks an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which is a sensor that provides crucial data for advanced rider assistance systems. Additionally, the color variants offered for the NT1100 may be considered dull by some riders. Another downside is the absence of an option for an e-chassis.

Pros and Cons in comparison

Pros and Cons in comparison

Honda NT1100 2022

Honda NT1100 2022

The NT1100 has the potential to be a big hit in the travel segment. Honda has done its homework brilliantly in many areas. The final consistency on the subject of safety features prevents an even better rating of the tourer. Nevertheless, it is one of the best touring motorbikes I have ever ridden. A little courage for additional equipment variants and more colour could bring the NT 2023 right to the front.

Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2020

Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin 2020

For me, the Africa Twin is a touring enduro as a touring enduro should be. This was already true of the predecessor model and did not change with the increase in displacement and power. Because the latter remained manageable at 102 hp, and Honda even managed to shed a few kilos compared to the CRF1000L. So it remained versatile, functioning just as well on the motorway as off-road. The chassis absorbs almost all bumps, the engine remains sovereign in every situation, ergonomics and seating comfort are exemplary. A motorbike for all days as well as for the big trip - wherever that may be.
