BMW R nineT Urban G/S 2017

BMW R nineT Urban G/S 2017

Starting with the BMW R nineT Urban G/S 2017, it boasts a powerful boxer engine with a displacement of 1170ccm, delivering 110 HP and 116 Nm of torque. This engine is known for its smooth power delivery and reliability. The bike is equipped with a prop shaft transmission, which provides a direct and efficient power transfer to the rear wheel. The suspension setup includes a telescopic fork at the front with 43mm diameter and 125mm of travel, and a paralever suspension with a monoshock at the rear, offering 140mm of travel. The tubular frame provides stability and durability, with a rake of 61.5 degrees and a trail of 110.6mm. The double disk brakes at the front ensure powerful and reliable stopping power, and the ABS system adds an extra layer of safety. The bike features a 19-inch front tire and a 17-inch rear tire, providing good traction and stability. With a seat height of 850mm and a kerb weight of 221kg, the BMW R nineT Urban G/S 2017 offers a comfortable riding position and a manageable weight. The 17-liter fuel tank capacity allows for decent range, and the overall design of the bike is true to the authentic G/S look, making it a visually appealing option. However, it is worth noting that wire-spoke rims are not standard, and the absence of ASC as a standard feature may be a drawback. Additionally, the seat bench may be prone to dirt and trouser paint visibility.

On the other hand, the Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid 2023 is equipped with an in-line crankpin offset engine with a displacement of 689ccm, delivering 73 HP and 68 Nm of torque. This engine is known for its high-torque and finely controllable characteristics, providing a smooth and responsive power delivery. The bike features a chain transmission, which offers a lightweight and efficient power transfer. The suspension setup consists of an upside-down telescopic fork at the front with 43mm diameter and 230mm of travel, and a swing arm suspension with a monoshock at the rear, offering 220mm of travel. The double cradle, central tube frame provides a sturdy and balanced chassis, with a rake of 27 degrees and a trail of 105mm. The double disk brakes at the front ensure reliable stopping power, and the ABS system adds an extra layer of safety. The bike is equipped with a 21-inch front tire and an 18-inch rear tire, providing good off-road capability and stability. With a seat height of 890mm and a kerb weight of 220kg, the Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid 2023 offers good ergonomics and a manageable weight. The 23-liter fuel tank capacity allows for a long range, making it suitable for adventure riding. The bike is praised for its powerful chassis with plenty of reserves, allowing for confident off-road riding. However, it is worth mentioning that the tank may get in the way on steep uphill sections, and the brakes could benefit from more bite on the road. Additionally, the rotary wheel and ABS deactivation process may become tedious in the long run.

Pros and Cons in comparison

Pros and Cons in comparison

BMW R nineT Urban G/S 2017

BMW R nineT Urban G/S 2017

As one of 5 different R nineTs, the Urban G/S is also a successful variation of the air-cooled boxer, which, as in the other models, produces 110 hp and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of more power. The brakes are also on the same high level as those of the original R nineT, only the chassis has to make concessions. ABS comes as standard, ASC at extra cost. You don't need much more to be happy. The only thing we wouldn't want to do without are the wire-spoke rims, because together with the TKC80 they complete the look.

terrific, authentic G/S look

powerful brakes, powerful engine

Enduro-typical reduced to the bare essentials

custom bike ex works

Wire-spoke rims not standard

ASC not standard

dirt and trouser paint visible on seat bench

Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid 2023

Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid 2023

Robust, well-balanced and user-friendly - that's how the Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid can be described after the Bosnia Rally. If you want to, you can conquer tough terrain with it. But those who don't have to cover long distances will prefer the lightness of the standard T7. The World Raid's wide tank is noticeable in its ergonomics and handling. The soft chassis, on the other hand, copes well with hard terrain and thanks to the steering damper, the bike remains very stable even on dirt roads that are flown over quickly. The complicated ABS deactivation procedure is annoying in the long run. one would like to see a simple "off" button. The bottom line is that the World Raid, in keeping with its name, appeals especially to globetrotters and is very well thought out in this respect with a long range and a lot of off-road comfort.

High-torque, finely controllable engine

Good ergonomics

Long range

Powerful chassis with plenty of reserves

Tank gets in the way on steep uphill sections

brakes could do with more bite on the road

ticklish rotary wheel and ABS deactivation tedious in the long run
