The Beginnings and the First Successes

Brembo's history in motorsport began in 1975 with the supply of cast iron discs to the Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1. That same year, Niki Lauda won the World Championship with the Ferrari 312 T. In 1976, Brembo expanded its commitment to motorcycle racing and was involved in the first victory of the Suzuki-Gallina team in the 500cc class in 1978.

In the 1980s, Brembo introduced the first 4-piston radial caliper in Formula 1 and received the first patent for a radial pump in motorcycle racing. Additionally, the company participated in other competitions, including the Superbike World Championship (1988), the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the IndyCar Series (1989).

Technological Advances in the 1990s

The 1990s were marked by further innovations. Brembo developed the first monoblock brake caliper for motorcycles and a thumb-operated rear brake pump, which was used by Mick Doohan, among others. From 1995 onwards, Brembo dominated the 500cc class and later MotoGP, with victories in all races of these categories. In Formula 1, Brembo introduced carbon brake discs, cementing its position as a leading supplier of braking systems.

Developments in the New Millennium

In the 21st century, Brembo continued its innovation strategy. This included the introduction of the brake-by-wire system in Formula 1 in 2014, as well as serving as the sole supplier of braking systems for Formula E and MotoE in 2018 and 2019. Brembo also reached another milestone in 2024 with over 700 world championship titles won in various motorsport disciplines.

Successful Partnerships in Motorsport

Numerous renowned riders and teams have achieved significant successes with Brembo components. Valentino Rossi won nine world championships with Brembo systems, Michael Schumacher led Ferrari to the world championship title in 2000 with Brembo brakes, and Max Verstappen became the youngest Formula 1 Grand Prix winner in 2016. Brembo also plays a central role in WorldSBK, motocross, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Global Presence and Expansion

Brembo was founded in 1961 in Bergamo and has evolved into a global corporate group. The acquired brands include Marchesini, AP Racing, SBS Friction, J.Juan, and Öhlins. These acquisitions enable Brembo to operate as a leading provider in motorsport and as a solutions provider for production vehicles.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary in motorsport, Brembo unveils a new logo that highlights the number 50. This logo symbolizes the company's long history of success and commitment to continuous innovation.
