1000PS Naked Bike Test 2024 - The Points Rating

During the test, we rode a total of 10 motorcycles in a direct comparison. The motorcycles were in different displacement classes. Nevertheless, we evaluated the motorcycles using the same evaluation scheme. The categories in the test protocol include aspects such as engine comfort and modulation, engine revviness, pull-through, engine power, gearbox, quickshifter, clutch, traction control regulation, traction control adjustment options, quality of switches, and logic of controls. Additionally, aspects such as stability, handling, precision, suspension quality and adjustment range, brakes, modulation, and effectiveness were evaluated. Each test rider provided their individual rating, which was then averaged for each category and ultimately led to an overall rating. The best motorcycle in each category was rated "1", while the worst motorcycle in the category was rated "10". For our readers, these tables are interesting for two reasons. On the one hand, they can see in which areas individual motorcycles are above average and in which areas they are below average - always considering that the price and displacement classes are very different. On the other hand, all reports and results can be clicked through here, allowing readers to compare their favorites directly - regardless of price and displacement class.

'Engine power and characteristics'

The engine of the Street Triple RS is like a Victorian steam train – powerful and reliable. With 130 hp and 80 Nm of torque, it pulls through the rev ranges like a Spitfire through the sky. Every twist of the throttle is a promise that it keeps with the precision of a royal watchmaker. With 765 cc displacement, this engine delivers a performance that impresses not only on paper. Adam Child highlights the characterful sound and power delivery at high revs, while Schaaf praises its everyday usability and strong mid-range pull. Marek emphasizes the precision and ease of the engine, which stands out especially in sporty riding situations. This engine is a true masterpiece that excites both track enthusiasts and daily riders alike.

'Transmission and clutch'

The precise and easily shiftable transmission of the Street Triple RS significantly contributes to the riding pleasure. The quickshifter with blipper allows for seamless gear changes, which is a great advantage, especially during spirited riding. The well-modulated clutch ensures smooth and comfortable operation, both in urban traffic and on twisty country roads.

'Electronic Assistance Systems'

The electronics of the Street Triple RS are like a reliable British butler – discreet, but always there when you need them. NastyNils highlights the comprehensive electronic equipment, including lean-sensitive traction control and cornering ABS. These systems work excellently and provide the necessary confidence in every riding situation. However, the operation via the joystick at the left handlebar end is fiddly and could be improved, as Nils notes.

Ergonomics and Operation

The ergonomics of the Street Triple RS are well thought out, offering a classic naked bike seating position within a supersport chassis. The seating position of the Street Triple RS is as comfortable as a well-crafted Chesterfield armchair. The soft saddle combined with the sporty suspension provides a perfect balance between comfort and performance. It's like sitting in an Aston Martin – luxurious yet ready for the race track. Marek and Nils praise the precise handling and comfortable seating position, which is suitable for both sporty rides and everyday use. The controls are easily accessible, although the joystick operation may not be entirely convincing.

Chassis and Handling

The chassis of the Street Triple RS, consisting of Showa components at the front and an Öhlins shock at the rear, is optimized for sporty riding. Kurt Rubik and Martin Bauer emphasize the firm setup and high precision, which make the bike particularly suited for fast, sweeping curves. Compared to the softer suspension of the MT-09, the RS shows impressive stability and feedback, making it an ideal companion on the race track. The warm-up time of the Supercorsa tires might remind you of British weather – you have to be patient, but then the riding experience is unparalleled.

Brakes

The brakes of the Street Triple RS are another highlight. They offer excellent delay and are very well controllable. Schaaf and Nils praise the sharp but controllable brakes, which also work reliably during spirited riding. These characteristics ensure a high level of safety and confidence, whether on the road or the race track.

Others

What all test riders consistently notice positively is the high build quality and attention to detail that Triumph has put into this motorcycle. From the routing of the cables to the overall construction, the Street Triple RS conveys a high-quality and solid impression. Only the splash guard could be improved, as Schaaf notes, which is, however, a common issue with naked bikes.

The helmets in the 1000PS naked bike test

The HJC RPHA 71 Carbon kept a cool head during this test. The helmet impressed the 1000PS crew with its pleasantly neutral aerodynamics, which also ensure fatigue-free riding on longer trips. Additionally, the effective ventilation performance and reliable heat dissipation on hot days are worth highlighting. The carbon model not only looks super classy, but it is also noticeably lighter than the base version of the RPHA 71. The visor mechanism with an additional sun visor works flawlessly. The fit is comfortable, and the fit range covers a broad spectrum within the 1000PS editorial team - all our editors felt comfortable! We give our recommendation.

Test Rider Schaaf's Experience with the Triumph Street Triple RS

Schaaf immediately noticed that the Triumph Street Triple RS, with its high-quality components and excellent craftsmanship, is a premium motorcycle. The chassis, in particular, impresses with its fine responsiveness, while the brakes can both bite sharply and remain controllable. The overall build quality, including the routing of the cables, gives the bike a high-end feel. Schaaf highlights that the chassis, combined with the front-wheel-oriented seating position, provides excellent feedback, enhancing the riding experience and control over the bike.

As a fan of triple engines, Schaaf particularly appreciates the balanced compromise between everyday usability and rev-happiness that the Street Triple RS offers. The only downside is the splash guard, which could be improved, though this is a common issue with naked bikes. Overall, the Street Triple RS leaves a very positive impression on Schaaf and meets the expectations of an exclusive and expensive motorcycle.

Martin Bauer on the Street Triple RS:

Bauer is a big fan of the Triumph's triple engine. He appreciates the combination of smoothness and performance across the entire rev range. The engine shows strong performance even at low revs and offers a rev-happiness reminiscent of four-cylinder engines. With a usable rev range of over 8000 RPM, the engine is impressive and provides powerful and consistent acceleration. In summary, Bauer describes the Triumph Street Triple RS as an excellent motorcycle for sportily ambitious street riders. The well-tuned, albeit firm suspension components and the powerful engine offer everything needed for fast cornering with a lot of confidence. The machine combines sporty precision with impressive stability and feedback, making it a favorite for fast rides on the road.

Test Rider Kurt Rubik's Experience with the Triumph Street Triple RS

Kurt Rubik, who switched directly from the Yamaha MT-09 to the Triumph Street Triple RS, immediately highlights the differences in seating position. The Street Triple RS offers a significantly more front-wheel-oriented seating position, with the seat positioned higher relative to the handlebars compared to the MT-09.

Kurt notes that the Street Triple RS is more optimized for long, fast curves. In contrast to the softer, more street-oriented suspension of the MT-09, the RS's chassis is firmer and shows clear ambitions for track use. To fully exploit the RS's potential, the chassis requires more pressure to work properly, which is already the case with the MT-09 at 30 km/h. Overall, Kurt sees the Street Triple RS as a motorcycle more geared towards sporty rides and track use, while the MT-09 shows its strengths in tighter environments.

The brakes are another highlight: they offer not only strong deceleration but also remain well-modulated, providing a high level of safety and confidence both on the road and on the race track. The electronic assistance systems, including lean-sensitive traction control and cornering ABS, work seamlessly together to ensure the bike remains perfectly controllable in any situation. These high-quality elements make the Street Triple RS not only sporty but also an extremely reliable companion. The thoughtful craftsmanship and high quality of the installed parts significantly contribute to the Street Triple RS setting benchmarks in riding pleasure and performance.
