From 2027, MotoGP™ will introduce new motorcycles to make the sport safer, more sustainable, and more spectacular. The upcoming regulations aim to enhance the efficiency of the bikes, promote global sustainability, and ensure more exhilarating races with increased overtaking opportunities.

MotoGP engines with 850 cubic meters from 2027

The engine displacement has been decreased from 1000 cc to 850 cc, not only reducing the top speed to enhance safety in the sport, but also extending the range and improving efficiency. Additionally, reducing the maximum bore size from 81 mm to 75 mm curtails power output, yet the engines maintain their distinctive traits.

To enhance efficiency, the number of engines allowed per season will be decreased from seven to six.

Fuel becomes sustainable, but also less

Starting in 2027, MotoGP™ will fully transition to sustainable fuel, moving away from the current 40% usage. The fuel tank capacity will be limited to 20 liters, and riders will be permitted to use up to 11 liters during the Tissot Sprint.

Aerodynamics to have less influence from 2027

Aerodynamics will be more tightly regulated and diminished starting in 2027 to mitigate their adverse impacts. The top section of the front fairing will be narrowed by 50 mm, and the nose will be retracted by 50 mm to lessen the influence of aerodynamics in critical areas: on the straights and during braking phases. This adjustment aims to promote tighter racing and increase the number of overtaking opportunities.

The aerodynamics behind the rider will be included in the homologation process starting in 2027, and teams will be permitted to update them only once per season to manage costs.

The end of Ride-Height and Holeshot Device

All ride height and holeshot devices will be banned from 2027 to control performance and enhance safety, especially during race starts. This emphasizes the significance of driving skills and aims to better the overtaking capabilities.

GPS data publicly available after the sessions

To further equalize the competition, the GPS data from all riders will be shared with all teams after each session. This approach of making data accessible to all competitors will enhance the opportunities for underperforming teams and riders to progress at a manageable cost. Access to this data will also contribute to making the sport safer and provide fans globally with a deeper understanding.

Concessions 2027

The existing concession framework will be maintained, yet every manufacturer will begin the season in B position starting in 2027. Their standings will be reassessed mid-year to adjust their concessions upwards or downwards, ensuring that their performance is considered right from the outset and the competition remains even.
