The Triumph Speed 400 cuts a fine figure in Spain

The Triumph Naked Bike offers a smooth and efficient ride, especially in urban areas where its 40 hp at 8000 rpm allows for seamless progress. Despite the modest 37.5 Newton meters of torque at 6500 rpm and the slight sluggishness of the 398 cc single-cylinder engine at lower revs, you'll still outpace the traffic with ease. The bike's reliable performance and high-quality construction ensure a satisfying experience, even with frequent use.

Lively through city traffic - the Triumph Speed 400 is just right for this!

Naturally, it's a joy to maneuver through traffic on the Triumph Naked Bike, thanks to its narrow build and light weight of 170 kilos. The front single disc brake provides excellent grip in case of sudden maneuvers by other vehicles. The braking power is easily controlled with minimal effort. Similarly, the clutch operation is smooth and effortless, making it a breeze to handle while riding.

The small Speedy 400 offers a nice torque plateau

The frame is perfectly suited for city riding, ensuring comfort and an upright seating position on the Triumph Naked Bike, providing a clear view of the surroundings. However, once we venture out of the city and tackle the twisty roads in the Spanish countryside, we find ourselves craving a bit more power and torque in the higher rev range. The bike offers a smooth torque delivery in the mid-range, accompanied by a deep and throaty exhaust note. It's important to pay attention to the revs, as the small LCD tachometer may be easy to miss.

The chassis of the Triumph Speed 400 could be firmer, but the brakes are top notch

The suspension could be a bit stiffer in fast corners, but then I realize that comfort is actually more important than aggressively racing around corners. The single-disc brakes, with a diameter of 300 millimeters, handle hard braking maneuvers on country roads with ease and require little manual force. The safety electronics, including a standard 2-channel ABS and switchable traction control, perform well in all situations.

The big tr(i)umpf of the Speed 400 - its successful appearance

In my opinion, the greatest triumph of the Triumph Naked Bike lies in its stunning appearance. The Trident 660 has already demonstrated Triumph's ability to blend retro elements with modernity, but the mini Speedy takes it to the next level. The golden fork and metallic-red tank of our test bike add to its elegance and high-quality look, surpassing its affordable price of just under 5500 euros in Germany and 6000 euros/francs in Austria and Switzerland.

The Speedy 400 is a really smart naked bike in the A2 class at a low price. The engine could be a little more agile, but the small Speed 400 offers a nice torque plateau in the mid-range. Thanks to its low weight, the handling is perfectly fine and the chassis offers an appropriate compromise between comfort and sport - with a tendency towards comfort. Although the brakes only have one disc at the front, they are really effective. Finally, the electronics also score points, with even a switchable traction control system on board.
