Overview - KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2015 vs Ducati Streetfighter 2009

The KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2015 and the Ducati Streetfighter 2009 are both powerful naked bikes that offer thrilling rides and distinctive looks. However, there are several differences between the two models that make them unique.

In terms of engine power, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R takes the lead with 173 HP, while the Ducati Streetfighter falls slightly behind with 155 HP. This gives the KTM an advantage in terms of acceleration and top speed. Additionally, the KTM has a higher torque of 144 Nm compared to the Ducati's 115 Nm, which provides better low-end power and responsiveness.

Both bikes have a 2-cylinder engine and a similar displacement, with the KTM at 1301cc and the Ducati at 1099cc. This means that they both offer a similar level of performance, but the KTM's larger displacement may provide a slight edge in terms of power delivery.

In terms of suspension, both bikes feature upside-down telescopic forks at the front. However, the KTM is equipped with WP suspension, while the Ducati uses Showa suspension. Both brands are known for their high-quality suspension components, so the performance is likely to be comparable.

When it comes to the chassis, the KTM features a chromium-molybdenum frame, which is known for its strength and lightweight characteristics. On the other hand, the Ducati has a steel frame. While steel frames are generally durable, they tend to be heavier than chromium-molybdenum frames. This could potentially affect the overall handling and agility of the Ducati.

Both bikes are equipped with Brembo brakes with four pistons at the front, providing excellent stopping power. The braking technology is also the same, with radial, monoblock calipers. This ensures precise and consistent braking performance for both models.

In terms of dimensions, the KTM has a slightly longer wheelbase of 1482mm compared to the Ducati's 1475mm. This may result in slightly better stability and handling for the KTM.

Moving on to the strengths of each bike, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2015 boasts a superb engine, agile handling, and a comfortable seating position. It also features a bombastic braking system and a classy look. On the other hand, the Ducati Streetfighter 2009 offers a powerful engine, good brakes, and a comfortable seating position. It also has a precise chassis and a distinctive look.

However, both bikes have their weaknesses. The KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2015 has been reported to have somewhat nervous handling on the racetrack, which may not be ideal for riders seeking ultimate performance. Additionally, the KTM comes with a high price tag, making it less accessible for some riders. On the other hand, the Ducati Streetfighter 2009 has a rough engine and lacks any electronic features, which may be a drawback for riders looking for modern technology and convenience.

In conclusion, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2015 and the Ducati Streetfighter 2009 are both powerful naked bikes with their own strengths and weaknesses. The KTM offers a more powerful engine, better torque, and a higher price tag, while the Ducati provides a distinctive look, good brakes, and a more affordable option. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on the rider's preferences and priorities.

KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2015

The KTM 1290 Super Duke R is undoubtedly a beast in terms of its data - 173 hp, 144 Newton metres of torque, 189 kilos dry weight are values with which you can make an impression on the quarter mile. It's almost a miracle that the Austrian is so easy to handle and agile despite its 1301 cubic capacity. On the country road it is therefore enormous fun, but on the race track you have to have a very precise riding style in order not to have to work a lot on the Super Duke R - but admittedly a very nice form of work! In addition, the expensive Special Edition can fully score visually with its many power parts and the beautiful paintwork

The "old" Streetfighter surprised me - despite not having a single electronic feature, this forerunner of today's hyper-naked bikes is very easy to ride! Above all, the engine is a stunner, the 154 hp hang wonderfully on the throttle and the 115 Newton metres of torque deliver a massive amount of lard. Of course, there is a lot of rumble in the box, as you would expect from a Ducati V2, but that doesn't bother the true fans anyway. Instead, they enjoy the precise chassis and the amazingly good brakes. The seating position is perfectly acceptable for a naked bike that would today fit into the category of hyper-nakeds. Even the look is only slightly greyed by the halogen headlight, but the rear end is timelessly beautiful!
