KTM 1190 Adventure 2016 vs. KTM 1090 Adventure 2017

The KTM 1190 Adventure model year 2016 and the KTM 1090 Adventure model year 2017 are both enduro motorcycles with similar technical specifications, but they have some notable differences.

In terms of engine and drive train, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2016 has a larger bore and stroke (105 mm and 69 mm respectively) compared to the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 (103 mm and 63 mm). This results in the 1190 Adventure having more engine power at 150 HP and torque at 125 Nm, while the 1090 Adventure has 125 HP and 109 Nm. Both motorcycles have electric starters and chain transmissions, and they both have 2 cylinders. However, the 1190 Adventure has a larger displacement at 1195 ccm compared to the 1050 ccm of the 1090 Adventure.

In terms of suspension, both motorcycles have upside-down telescopic forks at the front and use WP brand suspension at the front and rear. The chassis for both motorcycles is made of chromium-molybdenum and has a tubular frame. The front brakes also use Brembo brand brakes.

KTM 1190 Adventure 2016

In terms of assistance systems, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2016 has advanced rider assistance systems such as ride by wire, while the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 has additional features like ABS, riding modes, and traction control.

In terms of dimensions and weights, both motorcycles have a 19-inch front tire diameter and a 17-inch rear tire diameter. However, the KTM 1190 Adventure has a wider rear tire at 170 mm compared to the 150 mm of the KTM 1090 Adventure. Both motorcycles have a wheelbase of 1560 mm, but the seat height is slightly higher on the 1190 Adventure at 860 mm compared to 850 mm on the 1090 Adventure. Both motorcycles also have a fuel tank capacity of 23 liters.

KTM 1090 Adventure 2017

In terms of strengths, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2016 combines sport with comfort, has a smooth gearbox, a powerful and controllable engine, an excellent seating position, a handy chassis, sophisticated electronics, and lean angle ABS. On the other hand, the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 has a very powerful and cultivated engine with a wide rev range, performance modes, the ability to switch off ABS, adjustable traction control, agile and safe handling, adjustable ergonomics, a height-adjustable windshield, low weight, and a comparatively low price.

In terms of weaknesses, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2016 engine jerks a little below 3000 revs and does not look as independent as its predecessor. Additionally, smooth gliding is not its strong point. The KTM 1090 Adventure 2017, on the other hand, has optics that seem outdated compared to the new 1290 Super Adventures and its suspension fork is not adjustable.

Overall, the KTM 1190 Adventure 2016 and the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017 have their own strengths and weaknesses, and the choice between the two would depend on the rider's preferences and priorities.
