BMW S 1000 XR 2021

Starting with the BMW S 1000 XR 2021, it boasts a powerful in-line four-cylinder engine that delivers 165 horsepower and 114 Nm of torque. This engine provides a broad usable rev band and is known for its rev-happy nature. The bike's electronic chassis with automatic recognition of load condition ensures a well-balanced ride, even with a pillion passenger. The BMW S 1000 XR also comes equipped with a good braking system, providing reliable stopping power. In terms of suspension, the upside-down telescopic fork in the front and the swing arm with a monoshock in the rear offer 150 mm of travel and various adjustment options for compression, preload, and rebound. The aluminum frame and twin-tube design contribute to the bike's stability. Additional features include LED daytime running lights, LED headlights, a TFT display, and an adjustable windscreen. However, the BMW S 1000 XR has a few weaknesses. The knee angle may be a bit narrow for tall riders on long tours, and the suspension damping is not sensitive enough, making it challenging to find a truly comfortable setup. Additionally, the bike has a high fuel consumption.

On the other hand, the KTM 890 SMT 2023 features a two-cylinder engine that delivers 105 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque. This engine offers a linear power delivery, providing a smooth and predictable riding experience. The braking system on the KTM 890 SMT is snappy and responsive, ensuring reliable stopping power. The bike's playful handling and delightful angularity make it a joy to ride, and its comfortable ergonomics make it suitable for touring. The upside-down telescopic fork in the front and the swing arm with a monoshock in the rear provide 180 mm of travel and adjustment options for preload and rebound. The chromium-molybdenum frame and tubular design contribute to the bike's overall strength and stability. The KTM 890 SMT also comes with ABS, riding modes, cornering ABS, ride by wire, and traction control for advanced rider assistance. Additional features include connectivity, LED headlights, and a TFT display. However, the KTM 890 SMT does have a few weaknesses. Some important features come at an additional cost, and the sharp design may not appeal to everyone.

BMW S 1000 XR 2021

BMW S 1000 XR 2021

The BMW S 1000 XR offers a pleasant touring motorbike on the basis of a super sports bike. Sounds like a compromise - but rides like a spot-on development. The motorbike is practical and mature. Wind and weather protection are very good, integration from the mobile phone is well tested and intuitive, and the engine is simply always a joy to ride. The chassis adapts well to the load condition, but it never becomes sensitive and really comfortable. The seat comfort is good, but the knee angle becomes a bit acute on long tours. Nevertheless, this is a great motorbike that you like to ride sportily, but also very far.

KTM 890 SMT 2023

KTM 890 SMT 2023

Anyone who thought the new 8980 SMT would play an unnecessary supporting role between the 890 Adventure and 890 Duke models was probably mistaken. Rarely before has a motorbike managed to do so much what it suggests on the outside with its looks. So the 890 SMT wants to be moved in a sporty way - and can do that particularly well. However, with the fairing, the well-padded saddle and the upright seating position, even long distances are easy to master. The brakes have a firm grip and the handling feels extremely agile, even in tight corners. The motto of the 890 SMT is clearly travelling AND racing!
