Overview - KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2014 vs Triumph Speed Triple S 2016

In terms of engine power, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2014 takes the lead with 173 HP compared to the Triumph Speed Triple S 2016's 140 HP. This gives the KTM a significant advantage in terms of acceleration and top speed. However, the Triumph's three-cylinder engine offers a distinctive sound that some riders may prefer.

When it comes to torque, the KTM again comes out on top with 144 Nm compared to the Triumph's 112 Nm. This means the KTM will have more low-end power and better acceleration out of corners.

In terms of cylinders, the KTM has 2 while the Triumph has 3. This difference in cylinder configuration can result in a different power delivery and engine characteristics. The KTM's V-twin engine may provide a more aggressive and torquey feel, while the Triumph's triple engine may offer a smoother and more balanced power delivery.

Both bikes feature upside-down telescopic forks for their front suspension, but the KTM uses WP forks while the Triumph uses Showa forks. Both brands are reputable and known for their quality suspension components, so it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

For the rear suspension, both bikes use WP shocks. Again, WP is a respected brand in the industry and provides good performance and adjustability.

Both bikes have four-piston Brembo brakes at the front, providing excellent stopping power. The Triumph also uses radial brakes, which can offer improved feel and modulation compared to non-radial brakes.

In terms of tire dimensions, both bikes have the same front and rear tire widths and diameters. This means they should offer similar levels of grip and stability.

The KTM has a longer wheelbase at 1482 mm compared to the Triumph's 1435 mm. A longer wheelbase can provide more stability at high speeds but may sacrifice some agility in tight corners.

In terms of strengths, the KTM offers precise handling, traction control, and a powerful engine. The Triumph has a distinctive three-cylinder engine sound, a distinctive look, good brakes, a sporty seating position, and a well-functioning electronics package.

As for weaknesses, the KTM's main drawback is its high price. On the other hand, the Triumph could benefit from a more responsive engine at the bottom end and may have somewhat sluggish handling compared to the KTM.

Overall, both the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2014 and the Triumph Speed Triple S 2016 are powerful naked bikes with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. The KTM offers more power and precise handling, while the Triumph has a distinctive engine sound and a well-rounded package with good brakes and a sporty seating position. Triumph Speed Triple S 2016

The Speed Triple remains true to its line in the latest generation - a wonderfully sharp naked bike that characterises the streetfighter style like hardly any other model. It only makes limited sense for the racetrack - of course, the roaring three-cylinder engine with 140 hp is enormous fun and the Fafhrwerk shows no gross weaknesses, but there is a Speed Triple R with Öhlins suspension elements that naturally feels more at home on the racetrack. All in all, the Speed Triple S is an excellent country road fighter that also has a lot to offer in terms of looks.
