Overview - BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023 vs BMW K 1600 GT 2022

The BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023 and the BMW K 1600 GT 2022 are both impressive motorcycles, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.

Starting with the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023, it boasts a high-torque Boxer engine that provides strong acceleration even at low revs. This, combined with its low center of gravity, makes it surprisingly maneuverable for its size. The bike also offers practical features for frequent riders, such as a gigantic range of 600 km and low fuel consumption of 4.75 l/100km. It provides good wind and weather protection, ensuring a comfortable ride. The powerful engine and advanced electronics, including ABS, anti-slipping control, and riding modes, contribute to a confident feeling in the saddle. The bike also has a user-friendly TFT display and great ergonomics, particularly for taller riders.

On the other hand, the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023 does have some weaknesses. Its high weight of 268 kg can make it a bit challenging to handle at times. Additionally, the gearshifts at low revs can feel somewhat clumsy. The bike's appearance is also described as jagged and lacking elegance. Lastly, the full equipment package comes at a high price.

Moving on to the BMW K 1600 GT 2022, this touring motorcycle offers surprising performance despite its imposing appearance. It features a smooth in-line 6-cylinder engine that delivers great response and power. The bike is generally accessible and easy to use, making it suitable for a wide range of riders. It comes equipped with advanced features such as connectivity, a sound system, and a TFT display that is always easy to read. The integration of a smartphone into the vehicle, including map navigation via the BMW Connected App, is comprehensive and convenient. The bike strikes a good balance between stability and handling, providing a neutral ride. The brakes and chassis are also praised for their performance.

However, the BMW K 1600 GT 2022 does have a few weaknesses. While the connection from the mobile phone to the vehicle generally works well, it can be annoying when it hangs up. The buttons and switches in the cockpit are not backlit, which can make them difficult to locate in low light conditions. The wind protection is not perfectly solved, leading to a draughty feeling in the saddle. Surprisingly, the bike does not come with adaptive cruise control, which is expected in a touring motorcycle of this caliber. Lastly, the mobile phone compartment has been known to snag larger phones, requiring caution when storing them.

In conclusion, both the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023 and the BMW K 1600 GT 2022 have their own strengths and weaknesses. The R 1250 GS Adventure offers a powerful engine, practical features, and great ergonomics, while the K 1600 GT provides impressive performance, advanced connectivity, and a comfortable ride. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on the rider's preferences and priorities.

Pros and Cons in comparison

BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023

BMW R 1250 GS Adventure 2023

The big GS Adventure is and remains a great motorbike for any terrain - even for tight corners. The low centre of gravity of the boxer engine, the longitudinally mounted crankshaft, the upright seating position and the powerful but easily controllable torque from far below are simply a force. Although the Adventure version has a higher seat with more weight, which is a decisive hindrance when turning or manoeuvring, in terms of performance the engine also has so much punch in the big GS Adventure that you can let it rip. The BMW's braking system is stable and excellently controllable, and the equipment and electronics can be upgraded considerably - as long as you tick the boxes on the order list. Of course, this pushes up the price, but the many fans of the fat GS Adventure obviously don't mind.

BMW K 1600 GT 2022

BMW K 1600 GT 2022

The BMW 6-cylinder glides over the road in 2022 with a lot of elegance and a lot of equipment. This time, the new headlight technology was outstanding. The engine tuning and the new ESA chassis are also well done this time. Surprisingly, the wind protection is not perfect and perfectionists will miss an adaptive cruise control. The sovereign 6-cylinder is in the form of its life in the current model year. One enjoys the engine in every situation. The K 1600 GT is a magnificently dimensioned sports tourer that offers a practical balance between comfort and agility.
