If you like the current Yamaha MT-09 for its potent 890cc triple, its easy handling, its reliable brakes, and last but not least, its stylish looks, you'll also like the brand-new Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT. The basics, namely the engine, chassis, suspension, brakes, and aesthetics, remain the same, but now it comes with the added comfort and simpler, according to Yamaha, even sportier handling thanks to a sophisticated automatic transmission!
Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT 2024 with automatic transmission!
MT-09 Y-AMT now for the first time with one-finger operation!
After Honda has already been successful for a long time with the sophisticated dual-clutch transmission DCT and now offers a cheaper alternative with the much simpler automated clutch E-Clutch, Yamaha is also venturing into automatic transmissions with the MT-09 Y-AMT!

The Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT now with single-finger operation for the first time!
The clutch and gearbox of the MT-09 Y-AMT are each operated by an electric motor. Therefore, there is neither a traditional clutch lever nor a foot shift lever. In the manual shift option, you only need to press a button on the right handlebar, which switches between AT (automatic) and MT (manual) even while riding, and you can shift gears with the fingertips of your left hand. A novelty here is the one-finger operation. Known (for example from Honda) is the upshifting and downshifting of gears by operating two levers with the index finger and thumb. New to the Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT, however, is the additional option of one-finger operation for even sportier riding. Here, only the index finger is used to pull the plus lever for upshifting and push it for downshifting.
Two automatic modes on the MT-09 Y-AMT - D for comfort, D+ for sport
In AT mode, the full automatic, there are two options: D and D+. D meets the comfort demands of an automatic, while D+ caters to the dynamic needs. The D mode offers a softer and more comfortable fully automatic shifting at lower speeds and leisurely rides - ideal for commuters and relaxed cruising. When starting off and at low speeds, the Y-AMT system controls the clutch and gearbox, significantly relieving the rider during take-off, maneuvering, and in heavy traffic.
The Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT makes optimal use of the magnificent CP3 engine.
The D+ mode, on the other hand, brings out the sporty side of the Yamaha MT-09 by winding out the glorious CP3 engine longer before precisely shifting up the six-speed gearbox. Additionally, in both D modes, you can intervene at any time using the buttons on the left handlebar, allowing you to "override" the electronics at any moment. While previous generations of automatic transmissions focused solely on comfort and convenience, the MT-09 Y-AMT also aims to highlight the grunty and agile characteristics of the inline triple with its 119 hp in the MT-09.
Smart Key as an additional feature on the new Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT
As if it wasn't exciting enough that the MT-09 will soon be available with an automatic transmission, Yamaha is also equipping the new model with a Smart Key System, allowing the MT-09 Y-AMT to be operated keylessly - provided you have the Smart Key with you.
Prices, availability, and colors of the new Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT 2024:

The new automatic variant Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT will be available at Yamaha partners later this year, and in Austria, the MT-09 Y-AMT will cost 12,699 euros, with the 48 HP version costing 400 euros less.
