We are well aware that comparing these motorcycles is somewhat challenging. But what can we do? Yamaha only offers the R6 as a race version now, thus missing out on the renaissance of the 600cc supersports. There have been long-standing rumors about an R9, but Yamaha has yet to make any concrete announcements. Therefore, the GP fits the pattern of modern sports bikes the best and must face the purebred 600cc contenders.

The three motorcycles, Honda CBR600RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, and Yamaha XSR900 GP, each offer unique characteristics and are designed for different types of riders. The Honda CBR600RR is distinguished by its compact 599cc engine that delivers 119 hp, making it particularly suitable for riders who appreciate light and agile handling. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R impresses with a slightly larger 636cc engine and an impressive output of 124 hp, coupled with a high torque of 69 Nm, making it ideal for sporty rides and dynamic acceleration. The Honda CBR600RR immediately impresses with its extremely precise chassis setup, which particularly shines on twisty road sections. The engine of the CBR600RR is revvy and provides ample power both on the race track and on the road. Particularly noteworthy are the excellent brakes, which convey a secure riding feeling.

In terms of ergonomics, the Honda offers a sporty but not overly aggressive seating position. This makes it suitable for longer rides on the road as well. However, the heat buildup from the classic underseat exhaust can be bothersome on longer rides, especially for the pillion.

In terms of electronics and features, the CBR600RR comes equipped with modern elements such as an easily readable TFT display and advanced traction control systems. The quickshifter works excellently, though it requires slightly firmer inputs compared to its competitors. The sound of the CBR600RR is impressive, providing an authentic racing feel even without an aftermarket exhaust.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R stands out with its 636cc engine, giving it a significant advantage in low-end grunt. However, the chassis feels less precise in comparison and offers less feedback, which slightly affects the riding experience.

The seating position of the Ninja ZX-6R is very aggressive, with an extreme knee angle and low clip-on handlebars. This makes riding both on the road and on the race track exhausting. The overall ergonomics are not designed for relaxed riding.

In terms of electronics and features, the Ninja ZX-6R lags behind. It lacks modern features such as ride-by-wire and a blipper, and the display is not up to the latest technological standards. The ZX-6R's quickshifter is very smooth, which might appeal to some riders who prefer a gentle shift.

The Yamaha XSR900 GP stands out with its 900cc triple engine, giving it a significant displacement advantage. This makes it particularly powerful on the road. The chassis offers an excellent compromise between sporty performance and comfort, which makes handling easier even at higher speeds.

The XSR900 GP offers a more relaxed seating position compared to the other two bikes, making it more comfortable for longer rides. The sporty seating position is not too aggressive and provides good wind protection. In terms of electronics and features, the Yamaha is very well-equipped. A large TFT display, cruise control, and modern controls are standard features. The quickshifter on the XSR900 GP works the best in comparison and ensures a pleasant riding experience. The powerful sound of the triple engine completes the positive overall picture.

For riders who primarily ride on the street and are looking for a comfortable, high-performance bike, the Yamaha XSR900 GP is the best choice. On the other hand, those seeking ultimate performance on the race track will be happiest with the Honda CBR600RR. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R offers an interesting compromise, but it doesn't quite match the other two on either the street or the race track.
