1) The USA is a huge annual ganja destination

When it comes to exploring the popular West Coast, there is a vast expanse to choose from, even if you limit your adventures. A typical route for USA vacationers starts from Los Angeles and heads up to San Francisco, often veering north inland to include Las Vegas and a few national parks along the way. The return journey to L.A. usually follows the scenic Pacific coast. Despite covering many miles on such a road trip, you only scratch the surface of what the west coast has to offer. If you were to continue north along the coast from San Francisco, you would be driving for an astonishing 8 hours before reaching the northern tip of California. And beyond that, two more states (Oregon and Washington) entice with their impressive roads and landscapes.

On the flip side, it's a mere 2.5 hours south from Los Angeles. The route is lined with beautiful beaches all the way down to the Mexican border, with plenty of thrilling motorcycle routes in the inland areas.

Overall, the west coast is a fantastic destination all year round. During the summer months from June to September, you can explore the area north of San Francisco. The temperatures are pleasant even in summer, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of migrating whales on the beaches of Oregon. Conversely, the region around Los Angeles and further south is perfect for exploring from October to May. It's worth noting that the winter months bring snowfall to the mountains. California boasts some excellent ski resorts, so in December and January, it's best to avoid the high peaks when planning your route or stick to the southern regions.

With a guarantee! On a vacation on the west coast, you are treated to plenty of great sunsets. These are particularly beautiful on the impressive coast of Orgegon.

2) The best way to experience rugged wilderness is by motorcycle

For riders in Central Europe, the vast and sparsely populated areas of California, Oregon, and Nevada can be quite surprising. Upon landing in Los Angeles, it may be hard to imagine that there is space for solitary enduro adventures. However, once you escape the bustling metropolitan area of L.A. (with its notoriously heavy traffic), a whole new world opens up. The wilderness here is abundant! And what better way to explore this wilderness than on a Husqvarna Enduro motorcycle. Americans have a strong tradition of experiencing nature through vehicles, especially off-road. Many national parks offer unpaved routes for off-road enthusiasts, providing a unique source of income for tourism. Off-road forums and maps are valuable resources for motorcyclists looking to explore new trails. While many tracks are suitable for touring enduros, it's important to avoid routes restricted to off-road vehicles but open to motorcycles. These paths are often frequented by lighter off-road bikes brought in on pick-up trucks by locals. In remote areas like the Mojave and Death Valley, you may even come across small off-road camps set up on weekends. The convenience of having adventurous terrains close to major tourist cities means that breathtaking deserts, towering mountains, and stunning vistas are just a short ride away from comfortable accommodations. Check out these 8 amazing off-road destinations on our Instagram post, complete with distances to the nearest tourist hotspots! For instance, take a look at this typical Google Maps entry related to this topic. And don't miss the opportunity to explore High-Point Road on Palomar Mountain, as shown in the photo below here.

Lonely expanses in the USA

This gravel road in the mountains, for example, runs parallel to the 79 between Temecula and Warner Springs. Civilization is always within reach, but the ride still feels like a great adventure.

3) Get to know the country - including the dark side

When riding a Husqvarna Enduro, you have the opportunity to explore off the beaten path and truly immerse yourself in the country's landscape. As you venture through the west, you may encounter vast industrial farms and large livestock operations, highlighting the immense resource consumption of this economic powerhouse. The sight of massive freight trains traversing barren lands to transport goods underscores the scale of resource utilization. Visiting Lake Mead or Lake Powell, you'll notice the significantly low water levels, a clear indication of excessive resource consumption. Riding a Husqvarna Enduro allows you to witness firsthand the impact of human activity on the environment, providing a unique perspective on sustainability issues.

4) Friendly people make the trip accessible and carefree

When riding through the countryside on a Husqvarna Enduro, you immediately notice the welcoming nature of the people you encounter. Riding a motorcycle allows you to connect directly with others without any barriers, leading to friendly interactions at petrol stations and restaurants. As you venture further, the locals become even more curious and eager to engage with you. In the USA, there is a general positivity towards motorcycle enthusiasts, possibly due to the adventurous spirit they embody. Similar to the pioneers of the past, modern motorcyclists are exploring the vast landscapes of the country. This welcoming attitude towards riders enhances the overall experience, especially when navigating off-road trails and remote paths where local assistance is invaluable. The patience and kindness of the locals truly enhance the journey.

Help with the map

What Google Maps doesn't know, the colleague knows! Here in the Mojave Desert there is a network of roads, some of which are very long and unpaved. This is used by adventurers on 2 and 4 wheels. Information on the current condition of the roads is exchanged during small talk.

5) Intensive and diverse - an incredible amount is possible on a motorcycle

California alone is a prime example of the vastness and diversity of the USA. Starting a tour in Huntington Beach, you'll encounter people in beach attire and bikinis. Just 2.5 hours later, you can witness people skiing in the San Bernardino Mountains. Motorcycle gear can also double up for skiing. After a ski trip in the USA, you'll surely appreciate the lift prices in Europe once again. But let's refocus on motorcycling. The motorcycle scene in California is vibrant. There are numerous hotspots on the beaches, but motorcyclists also have their favorite gathering spots in the mountains (such as Descanso Junction near San Diego). The notorious "Snake" near L.A. is a meeting point for super sports bikes, naked bikes, and plenty of cruisers. Along this route, you might get the impression that American motorcyclists are slightly less skilled in riding technique compared to bikers from the Alpine region. Check out a story on MOTORRADonline.de about the supposedly most treacherous curve along the Snake.

For a more relaxed ride, explore the lesser-known routes. In Topanga Canyon, for instance, there are some fantastic routes that lead from Malibu Beach to the north.

Even if you only explore a small area during your trip to the USA and set off from a base, you'll always feel a sense of "limitless possibilities." This is partly because, as an enduro traveler, you have the freedom to ride on many off-road trails. The US West Coast emerges as an incredibly diverse and captivating motorcycle destination that should be on every rider's bucket list. I have plenty of impressions from my 2-week journey to the USA with the Husqvarna Norden 901 for you, in the form of short videos on Instagram.
