In terms of strengths, the Super Adventure S has a more powerful engine, precise handling, traction control with a fun factor, cornering ABS as standard, an easy-to-read TFT display, a quickshifter, LED headlights with cornering lights, and off-road capability. The Adventure has a very powerful and cultivated engine with a wide rev range, performance modes, switchable ABS, adjustable traction control, agile and safe handling, adjustable ergonomics, a height-adjustable windshield, low weight, and a comparatively low price.

In terms of weaknesses, the Super Adventure S has a high price and a power-consuming height adjustment for the windshield. The Adventure's optics may seem outdated compared to the new Super Adventure models, and its suspension fork is not adjustable.

Overall, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S 2017 offers more advanced features, a more powerful engine, and a higher level of performance compared to the KTM 1090 Adventure 2017. However, the Adventure offers a more affordable price point and still provides a strong performance and handling experience.
