BMW R 1250 GS je logickým pokračováním modelu R 1200 GS - logickým především proto, že od tak oblíbeného motocyklu nelze očekávat radikální změny. Design byl proto měněn opatrně a známé možnosti podvozku a elektroniky zůstaly zachovány. Nový název R 1250 GS však slibuje nový motor - a ten má opravdu něco do sebe! Výkon 136 k při 7750 ot/min a maximální točivý moment 143 newtonmetrů při 6250 ot/min jsou naprostá bomba! BMW tak renovovalo velké GS téměř dokonale: zůstává jasně rozpoznatelné, má o něco více elektroniky ve standardní výbavě, stále dlouhý seznam příplatků (které si zákazníci rádi zaškrtávají od A do Z) a nyní ještě lepší a suverénnější pohonnou jednotku - co víc si přát!
