KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 vs. Ducati Streetfighter V4 S 2020

The KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 and the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S 2020 are both powerful naked bikes with impressive specifications.

In terms of engine power, the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S takes the lead with 208 HP compared to the KTM 1290 Super Duke R's 180 HP. However, the KTM has a higher torque of 140 Nm compared to the Ducati's 123 Nm. The KTM has a twin-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1301 ccm, while the Ducati has a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1103 ccm.

Both bikes feature upside-down telescopic forks on the front suspension, with the KTM using WP suspension and the Ducati using Öhlins suspension. The rear suspension on both bikes is a single swing arm, also using WP suspension on the KTM and Öhlins suspension on the Ducati.

In terms of the chassis, the KTM has a chromium-molybdenum frame, while the Ducati has an aluminum frame with a monocoque design.

Both bikes have double disk brakes on the front, with a diameter of 320 mm on the KTM and 330 mm on the Ducati. The front brakes on both bikes use four pistons and feature radial, monoblock technology from Brembo.

In terms of advanced rider assistance systems, both bikes offer ABS and cornering ABS. The Ducati goes a step further with additional features such as riding modes, dynamic suspension, launch control, ride by wire, quickshifter, traction control, and anti-wheelie.

Both bikes have a fuel tank capacity of 16 liters.

In terms of strengths, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2020 offers a new frame and seating position, a reverse linkage on the shock absorber, a better automatic gearshift, a powerful engine despite Euro 5 regulations, and sensitive electronics. On the other hand, the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S 2020 boasts an electronics package at the absolute top level, a high-revving and brutally powerful engine, very agile handling, a surprisingly comfortable seating position even for tall riders, powerful brakes, a sporty and high-quality chassis, great aerodynamics, and a visually appealing design.

However, the KTM does have some weaknesses, such as easily scratched plastic between the seat and tank and brake squeaks at low speeds. The Ducati also has its weaknesses, including the need for high revs for optimal performance, somewhat rough engine response in city traffic and everyday life, tippy handling at low speeds, and strongly changing engine noise depending on speed and flap position.
